Transition King's Cross
Our world is changing. Cheap gas and oil are running out, and if we are to sustain our current lifestyles, we too must change.
This might sound daunting; in fact it's relatively simple. If we make small adjustments to how and where we spend our money, we can keep up with these changes: Transition Towns are self-reliant communities that produce their own food to be sold locally, keeping production and trade within the community. By re-localising food production, and so keeping money within the local area, we are kick-starting a strong and sustainable economic future for King's Cross and the surrounding boroughs.
GetMoreLocal is helping King's Cross adjust to become one of the areas pushing the transition initiative forward. This new status is intended to create a better and more environmentally responsible way of life for residents, workers and visitors to King’s Cross - whilst also preparing them for the oncoming challenges posed by climate change and dwindling supplies of peak oil. Dubbed 'the new centre of London', King's Cross is predicted to see 70 million visitors in 2012, making the area the ideal location to bring this movement to the attention of North London
The Transition Movement tackles the end of this oil dependent era by taking elements of the pre-oil age and implementing them in a way that is compatible with modern needs. It may be tempting to wait for the government or other unspecified agencies to fix the problem, however - at the risk of sounding dramatic - we may not have that time.
